Our medical team offers a weight loss clinic that focuses on losing weight without surgery. Sage Bariatric’s medical team consists of Dr. Monica Anz-Cavazos, Dr. Henneth Corado, Linda Golden, DNP, Vanessa Rodriguez, FNP, Katie Caulfield, FNP, and Heidi Jensen, MS,RDN,LD. Each member has extensive experience in the treatment of obesity. Dr. Anz-Cavazos and Dr. Corado both are trained in Internal Medicine but focus 100% of their practice on obesity treatment, and Dr. Corado is certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine. Our nurse practitioners have many years of experience in weight loss medicine and offer tremendous help to our patients. Heidi Jensen, our dietitian, also has extensive training and experience in weight management and is a key-support for our patients. They are a power team!
Weight Loss Medications
The team utilizes an array of treatment options. Obesity is a complex disease and requires a multidisciplinary approach for lasting treatment. Pharmacologic treatment such as appetite suppressants are commonly used, both by themselves and in conjunction with surgery. Some of these anti-obesity medications, or “weight loss drugs”, help by focusing on controlling appetite. Others concentrate on the part of the brain that causes cravings. Still others affect how we perceive hunger. At times we use a combination of the different medications to help patients tackle hunger and focus on health. We pay careful attention when choosing medications for each patient, and we monitor patients closely to make sure the medications are working in a safe and effective way. Examples of the medications we use include, but are not limited to: Mounjaro, Oxempic, Saxenda, Wegovy, phentermine, Qsymia, Contrave, and others. We look forward to the oral version of Mounjaro, Zepbound, which is due to release in December 2023.
Individualized Approach
A comprehensive and individualized program is designed for each patient. We look at obesity from multiple angles. We have many components of our body and mind that affect our weight. For some, it is largely appetite. For others, emotions are the cornerstone. Types of food can be a huge culprit for many. Still others just need to get their metabolism moving with exercise. And for many, it’s a combination of all of those. We help determine what each patient needs to focus on and create an individualized plan on how best to help each person.
Weight Loss Dietitian
Dietary support is important for most people looking to improve their health. Heidi Jensen, MS, RDN, LD
is the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist on the team. Heidi received her Bachelor’s of Science in dietetics and her Master’s of Science in Nutrition from Iowa State University. She is certified in Adult Weight Management by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. She enjoys helping individuals find their motivation for healthy lifestyle change in a fun and encouraging way. “Wellness is about the journey not the destination.”
