If you want to have bariatric surgery, you have several different options. There are different kinds of bariatric surgery. These include:

Gastric Bypass: This is the most commonly performed bariatric procedure. It is a combination procedure. The stomach is reduced in size, and parts of the small intestine, where most of the calories are absorbed, are re-routed. A small stomach pouch is created by stapling off the upper part of the stomach from the lower part. This significantly limits the amount of food a person can eat in one meal.

Sleeve Gastrectomy: Sleeve gastrectomy is a type of restrictive weight loss operation. It reduces the amount of food you can eat by reducing the size of the stomach. A thin vertical sleeve, or narrow section of the stomach, is created by using a stapling device, removing approximately 80% of the total volume of the stomach.

Adjustable Gastric Banding: Gastric Banding surgery is one of the safest, most popular, and affordable medical weight loss procedures available. The surgery is performed by placing a band around the uppermost part of the stomach, thereby limiting the amount of food one can eat at a time. The band is then adjusted to increase or decrease the amount of food that the stomach can hold.

Revision Surgery:  A revision operation is used to correct prior weight loss surgery that has failed. If you have unresolved complications or if you have not achieved your desired weight loss, a revision operation might be right for you.

Robotic Sleeve Gastrectomy: Robotic Sleeve Gastrectomy can be performed with the da Vinci robot, potentially the most effective and least invasive option for weight loss surgery. The Robotically-Assisted Gastric Sleeve allows your physician to provide the gold standard surgical treatment for weight loss using only a few small incisions.

Gastric Plication: Gastric Plication is a new laparoscopic procedure available for weight loss. The surgeon reduces the volume of the stomach by about 60 to 70% by sewing large folds in your stomach, essentially folding it in on itself, to reduce the size of the stomach.

Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS): The surgeon makes one small incision through the umbilicus and fills the abdomen with carbon dioxide gas. A camera and multiple operating instruments are placed through the incision and the surgical procedure is performed. At the termination of the procedure, the skin incision is closed with absorbable sutures, resulting in a small scar in the umbilicus.

Many of these procedures are conducted in clinics throughout San Antonio, Texas.
